HEY EVERYONE!! I’m back!! I hope everyone had a fun weekend because I sure did!
My family and I visited and had an overnight stay at Newport in Rhode Island. We have never been before and the place was truly breathtaking! The town was like a village but with huge houses, mansions, many pubs, restaurants and shops as well as big lighthouses and beautiful ocean views!
Our first stop was the “Cliff Walk“. It was a long path next to the water. This path had a very good view of the ocean and the shoreline on the other side. I loved looking how the waves foamed as they crashed on the rocks and the booming and ominous sound they made every time they collided. I adore the ocean and to be honest if it wasn’t winter I would have jumped in without second thought! We walked a while but then we returned to the car to continue our trip.
What surprised my mom and I the most were the immense and alluring houses. All of them had big windows and vast plots of land. There was also a great majority of mansions that used to be open to the public and for tours. However the only one we could find that was still open this season was called “The Breakers“. This mansions was huge and when I tell you I was surprised you have to take my word for it!
There were high painted ceilings with elegant designs. There were many statues and a bunch of chairs as well. Their rooms were neat and the objects and furniture was well placed. What surprised me a lot was first how small in length their beds were as well as the difference in room styles between a what was considered a “maids'” room and the homeowner’s room. They had a lot of unique decorations such as vases, clocks, old telephones and there were multiple “butler rings” that rung in the kitchen/ pantry when clicked. The mansion also processed of many balconies that offered a spectacular view to the vast ocean as well as the gardens.
One of my favorite rooms was one of the what I considered living rooms that had a piano in it. For a second I imagined myself living in the grand mansion and waking up everyday and spending part of my morning just playing pieces on the piano and hearing its echo roam the whole mansion. Sometimes I dare to say how I envy the ones who used to live in homes / mansions like these and wish that someday I could have a life so elegant and carefree as they might have had.
One thing I forgot to mention… during our little expedition the weather was not as charming and as we say here in New York, it was brick outside. My toes froze because my intelligent self decided to wear pretty shoes instead of warm shoes. At least I was wearing double layers and only my toes were cold….
After we finished touring the amazing mansion and its garden we headed for lunch! We searched for a while and eventually we headed to the “Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant“. The place was amazing. There were signs, hats, boots and many kinds of decorations hanging from the walls and ceilings. Every hook and indent in the walls was filled which I absolutely adored. The food was very tasty and the staff was very kind and nice. We started with some spicy shrimp and wings and my brother and I got the fish and chips, my mom the chicken and waffles and my dad the fish taco. Of course we shared some with each other and it was all very delicious!! Their fries were some of the best and most tongue melting fries I have had in a while!! After that our dinner wasn’t complete obliviously without something sweet. That’s when we went to “Kilwins” which was a fudge and chocolate shop and also an ice cream shop. The moment you walked in the shop you could smell the chocolate! It was literal heaven. If you closed your eyes you would be able to picture your favorite chocolate in front of you floating in you imagination ready to be eaten! My mom fell in love as she ADORES chocolate and she got some caramel and some cherry chocolates. No matter how much I wanted some of the chocolate covered pretzels that were there I also couldn’t resist the ice cream and if you know me well you know that ice cream comes before chocolate for me so me and my brother got some ice cream. My brother got marshmallow ice cream flavor on a waffle cone and I got chocolate chip cookie dough in a cup since I don’t really like cones because I want my last taste to be of ice cream and not of dough. Of course the ice cream was amazing and very very very veeeeerrrrry luscious.
We finally went to our hotel where my brother and I swam in the swimming pool and had fun and then we went to our rooms to rest after a very tiring but fun day. We watched a Spiderman movie ate some left-over pizza and slept.
The next morning came and we woke up HUNGRY! We checked out and headed to IHOP. I have only been there once before but it was four years ago and I couldn’t really remembered what it was like. The food was very good and we left stuffed. We all got something sweet except for my dad who got eggs benedict, which he loves!! I got chocolate chip pancakes which were very yummy and shared it with my family. After that we road around the town for one last time stopping by “Fort Adams” and even though it was closed we were able to walk by the waterfront and enjoy the view of the water. Eventually we couldn’t find anything else to do so we headed home. It was a long 2 hour drive but we managed to get there by 3 o’clock and got some McDonald’s for lunch. We arrived home ate and watched “Arrow” on Netflix, our new binge watching series.
This weekend I had tons of fun! I love trying new things and going to new places and I can’t wait to visit Rhode Island again. It was truly spectacular and I loved every moment I spent there. If you haven’t you should most definitely visit sometime and walk by the water and enjoy some good food in one of the restaurants and pubs in the town.
